- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
For those that have followed you a few years on here know that not only did you wait you seemed to do everything you possibly could to attract a nesting pair. I think you tried it all from reading over the years. Clean houses, muddy houses, different housing, dawnsong, moving systems, clearing lots of tress, creating a mentee. I am sure you tried other tricks. Some time you should chronicle that all for us in a post. You are right that now your nerves do come into play!

Again thank you to all who have responded. It means so much to have your support. Of all the people I know, you folks are the only ones who havn't at one time or another rolled their eyes or laughed at me during the last 7 years at my intrest in hosting martins. For all those still waiting, it is WELL worth the wait, and I hope you get your's sooner than later. As I said earlier, it ain't set in stone yet, but I am a lot further along than I've ever been. As Deb stated, I've tried it all (except mirrors) it just takes time, and a good location.
Hoping the best for all this season!

- Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.
I wish I had read the forum yesterday so I could be among the first to Congratulate you Tony !! That is the best news I have read this season and it could not happen to a more deserving person. Best of Luck to see many-many more Purple Martins on your rack!!!

Way to go Mr. T, I can only guess at your excitement as I waited only 5 days until I got martins after I put up a house. I was so lucky, and now we have a full blown colony. Patience is a virtue. Good Luck and keep us posted...........................................................well, I know you will!

Kudos to you, Tony. You have waited patiently and worked hard to get to this point. Still a lot of migration to come. You might as well go ahead and fill everything up. Here's hoping that happens!!!!

I don’t have the perfect site. One open flyway with trees within 80 ft. I do have a small pond they utilize during the heat of Summer. (2017) HEAVY HAWK PREDATION

Way to go Gobbler T. I think most of us worried almost as much as you for all these years
I caught myself trying to check the forum, patiently waiting on a good report for you. Many times it was a hurried check just to see if you had posted anything.
I know now (and have known for a long time) that there were many others checking on you too. I missed one day checking and already I am pushed back to page 3.
You have many friends on here for sure.
Now maybe we can all relax and pull for others that have been in the same boat as you. You are definitely stronger at facing diversity than I ever could have been. My success come easy, otherwise I would have probably threw in the towel looonnnng ago...
I pity any sparrow or starling that comes with-in a mile of your place now... or maybe not
