I did my 1st nest check on March 27, had 14 nests in 20 cavities. We went on a 2 week road trip, got back yesterday. While we were gone, my son 'dispatched 4 sparrows, (YAY!). Did a nest check today and I am delighted!
20 cavities, 19 occupied and 38 eggs! 9 cavities have eggs, 10 have nests.
We can just hope now that the weather holds nice for us here in South Central Texas!
Hoping for a good year!

Barbara,
That is wonderful that you have so many eggs already. I hope you have a very successful year.
Enjoy your martins.

- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
What a homecoming! Makes me envious. My 14 birds seem happy even with the cruddy cool weather and we haven't started nest building yet. Soon.
