Nest building begins
I lowered my rack a little while ago, while everyone was off feeding, and it looks like I've one good nest started and 2 just beginning. There's a lot of activity going on too. Yesterday evening I counted 17 (I think) birds. I think there's 5 adult pair and several new birds have shown up the last few days. With this being my 1st year, I not real sure on all the identities, but I think there are 3 sub-adult males because they do have the spots on their chests. The others not so sure what I'm seeing, adult females or sub-adult females. I've got a few pictures but I'm not able to post them. I keep getting an error message. I tried photobucket that Deb A recommended but still not able to post. Hopefully soon I will be successful with this. Looking forward to your input on them. Hope everyones week-end is great. The weather here in Alabama is beautiful.
Try this: While looking at your images in PhotoBucket, hover your cursor over an image, and note the little gear-shaped icon that appears on the top right of the image. Move the cursor over the gear, and select "Get Links." To put your picture directly into your post, select the "IMG Codes" link at the bottom. Click in it, and the link will be copied into your buffer. Then, while typing your post, place your cursor where you want the image, and press "Ctrl C" to paste it in. Or press the right mouse key, and then select to paste the text.rambeaux wrote:I tried photobucket that Deb A recommended but still not able to post. Hopefully soon I will be successful with this.
If you use this method, you probably should make your images no more than 800 pixels wide.
If you prefer just having the link appear in your post instead of the image, then select "Direct Link" instead of "IMG Codes."

- Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.
Yes! It worked! He is a handsome SY male. You are growing gangbusters your first year. Congratulations!

Thanks Deb! Yes , my colony is growing way beyond my expectations. I have benefitted from a couple of established colonies nearby that have been overwhelmed with large numbers of martins. Hopefully, I can fill all my gourds with pairs, that will hatch and fledge many young birds. Regardless, it's been a very exciting spring already. Thanks again for your input and encouragement.
