Question about intruder in my gourd colony

I lowered my gourd rack last weekend to check things out and I found what looked just like a house sparrow nest. So, I commence removing it and a blue egg fell to the ground. I thought HS eggs were off white with dark speckles? I mean i know that's what they look like but do they sometimes lay a blue egg? There was only the one egg.
Was that a different species of bird? Bluebirds and Robins lay blue eggs I think but with the crescent entrance holes, neither of those could fit in the gourd I wouldn't think.

Sure does sound like a starling may be breaching that crescent gourd entrance, and nesting.
Starling eggs are blue.

matt is right.. if there was an egg the starling should be back and making frequent trips.

Raising porches to flush should stop them - I had some gourds with crescents someone donated to a project, starlings had eggs in two crescents, but once we raised porches, no more starlings.

I have had bluebirds enter crescents with no problem. Your blue egg could belong to a pair of bluebirds if you have them at your site.
