Looking at the strong winds we have today.30-40 mph . I will be looking for a good bunch of martins to get a free ride up here for Sun-Mon!Allot more birds should be moving North! Neighbors to the North , be on the lookout!
You can hold your mouse pointer on the map and get wind velocities for that area your on.

Currently I have 3 gourd racks with 24 gourds. One gourd rack will be for sy arrivals only.
Bo Eleven gourds 20
That is a neat map. Thanks for sharing. Our weather for the next week is gloomy. We will have rain and snow with temps only in the 30's and 40's all week. I have seen no bluebirds yet, and they are usually here in March. Nor have I seen any tree swallows, which is a good thing because the weather is too bad for them too. I am convinced Spring is not going to arrive this year. We still have snow on the ground also. You guys should probably entertain our martins for at least another week. Thanks for helping them out
Trish
Jack,
Every year I watch the scout reports for the one you usually post for Coal City. It reminds me that the martins may soon arrive up here in far northern Illinois at Roscoe, which is very close to Wisconsin between Rockford and Beloit.
Thanks for your astute reporting and sharing of knowledge!
Since last season I have added an SS-24 with an attached Trio Mini-Castle outfitted with a couple Spare-O-Doors to do battle with the pesky HOSP. All the gourd entrances are kept plugged with 35 mm film canisters.
NEWS FLASH!!
Just now while I was typing this post, my neighbor rang my doorbell and told me there was an ASY male Purple Martin perched atop one of my gourd racks. Right now I'm totally out of breath from lowering the rack and opening a few holes for this magnificent male to roost in tonight if he wants.
This is happiness!

Yep, we have been getting some big thunderstorms, heavy rains and hail too! Yesterday I drove to the polls to vote and experienced rain so heavy that I couldn't see the front of my own car, sort of like driving under Niagara Falls.
But this afternoon I noticed two ASY male Purple Martins preening themselves atop a gourd rack while taking a shower.
I am anxious to see whether our frozen ground has thawed enough to put the shepherds hook where the tree swallow gourd needs to be.
