Brasilia flight 408 just in!
My boy just returned after lots of weather related flight delays
I was getting worried. He looks good and sounds even better. He apparently had no travelling companions and arrived with little fanfare. Just a quick check of his hotel room, some preening, a long drink in the pond, and off for a bite to eat. First day of spring as far as I'm concerned. Let the games begin!

Currently I have 3 gourd racks with 24 gourds. One gourd rack will be for sy arrivals only.
Bo Eleven gourds 20
Congratulations. I hope he brought his winter gear so he is ready for the snow heading this way. I got 5000 crickets in last week, so I am ready for their return. From the looks of this on going cold weather I may need them all. I hope you have a good season. Oregon must be in the southern part of the state?
Trish
Congratulations Dave! Now if we could just get a break from this cold weather pattern we're stuck in.
Train your Purple Martins to supplemental feed... you'll be glad you did. http://www.wisconsinpurplemartins.org/
Thanks all- hope you have a prosperous season as well. Upon further checking I think it was a neighbor's bird looking for friends. He didn't stay the night as far as I know but was back hanging around this morning. That's still an accurate scout report isn't it? Trish- I'm about 10 miles south of Madison- we're getting swamped with rain now and for the next few days, then 30s on Thursday. Drought? I think not this year.

- Martin Colony History: 24 Super and Excluder Gourds on two gourd racks, all SREH. Full occupancy. My philosophy is to maximize fledge % with existing cavities rather than adding gourds to grow colony, thus providing opportunities for new colony expansion. Fledge over 100 nestlings yearly from 24 gourds. Band nestlings in cooperation with state university. 2019 Adendum: Reduced colony size to 12 gourds to focus on more intensive management regimen.
Dave,
I hope my returning martins are late. As you know, the weather today in Wisconsin was miserable-heavy rain and 39 degrees. The same is forecast til Saturday. The lake is just now beginning to thaw a bit and even the tree swallows have disappeared. Spring in Wisconsin!
I hope you have a good season. I will have to get down and visit your site this year.
