I thought I would sit outside for a while... heard a short chirp... ran in to get the i-pod with the dawn song... within seconds of playing it, saw a bird draw its wings in and dive fast to one of two racks that were ready. We have our first arrival at 7:20PM Friday night. She fluttered around at the rack that was not unplugged, so I quickly got the ladder and made ready the second rack, she went in a gourd minutes later.

Martin Colony History: Start 2009 with one pair. Upgraded from S&K houses to two Trendsetter 12's with gourds beneath in 2013. I have experienced job, pet, and parental losses since '13. The Purple Martins lift my spirits and remind me how life continues forward by flying their little selves from Brazil back to my yard. As one forum person once told me, chin up DebA, look at the martins. Danger all around but yet they soar in the sky without a care in the world.

It is so wonderful, isn't it? :) Happy for you.

I got home today sun shining and 50 degrees . I seen 5 tree swallows flying around the yard first ones I have seen this year. I was out working around on the nest box trap I use for starlings . Keeping a eye on the sky to see if there were martins around but all I seen were the swallows . I figured that none would be here for a few days as the sightings on the map looked like they were 100 miles south of me in Indianapolis . It was about 7pm I heard a sound that I have not heard since August it was a martin flying over the gourd racks making a lot of noise probably mad that the gourds were plugged so I hurried and unplugged some of them. The forecast is warm until Monday then colder I will probable be flipping crickets the beginning of next week
