Hope everyone's martins are making it through the cold ok.

Today I tried feeding crickets for the first time. I had several catch the crickets but most of them dropped them after a second or two. Is this normal when they first learn? I believe they were able to feed here yesterday so maybe they are not hungry enough? The crickets I ordered last year just in case but never needed them. I removed some of them from the freezer today and thawed them in warm water. Thanks in advance to anyone who has advice or experience to share.

That's a nice looking house, David. The martins might have dropped the crickets because they not really familiar with the whole procedure just yet, but you did well if some gave it a try - maybe they are not very hungry, as you suggest. You can give it a try again later today - or tomorrow if it's still cold.

Thank you Louise. My wife says I have enough housing already. Ha! I keep sneaking a new one in each year. May have to find an auxiliary site soon. She loves the martins but doesn't like the fact that the gourds have to be painted white.
Martins have gone out to feed now I assume. Tomorrow to be warmer but I will try again while they remember what they learned this am.
