Does anyone know?
When owls beat on a gourd with their wings, and the birds get scared
and come out and the owl catches them in its wings, does the owl
-catch both of them? or
-does one get away and that one just does not return?
We had 4 pair disappear last year and some left eggs behind.
We started leaving the yard light on all night and did not lose any more.

They catch the martins with their talons/feet - I can't answer as to whether they catch one or two, we'd need a camera or first-hand observer for that one.
I'm not sure I guess if he were lucky he might catch both at once but what I saw was one would come back the next morning have a look around but then abandon the nest even though there were eggs inside ! Hope this helps .
