Last year I secured the snake netting around our poles with surveyor string and cable ties, but it was a pain every time I had to take them off, as I had to tie/untie cut/replace the string and cable ties. My hubby listened to me complain :???: just long enuf that he went in search of a better solution -- and found "Releaseable Cable Ties" at our local Ace Hdware. I rethreaded the snake netting and now is a simple matter to close and unclose the cable ties whenever I need to. Photo attached.

Did you get one of the big rolls of netting? I hated to buy that much, knowing I can't use it. Want to sell some of it?

Great tip, Annie - thanks for sharing. I think a lot of landlords would use a removable net above their main guard, if it was easy to remove and put up again, for nest checks.

The plus about doing it that way, net above guard, is that only snakes that bypass the guard will get caught, instead of every snake.

Releasable cable ties might be good for owl/hawk guards too.

I use a velcro strap that I picked up at Harbor Freight for a couple of dollars. It's about 2" wide and about 18" long. I put it at the top of my netting to hold it in place and then let the netting fan out below it. Worked great for me last year. Easy to remove and replace.

Louise, thank you for the tip about putting the netting above the pole guard. I did not think of doing it that way. I will move mine. Plus the netting is always catching sticks and debris from the ground, so having it above will be better all around!

Ed, I'm reusing my netting from last year. The original roll came from ??? and was not a big roll at all. Didn't think I'd have enough. Can't recall where we got it. A couple more of our residents from last summer showed up 2 days ago but I haven't been able to watch them in the evening to know if they are staying in the gourds or not. Going to camp out with the binocs tomorrow morning as it will be FREEZING and try to see how many are now here.
