Did a nest check today and found my first 2 eggs of the season, also lots of nest building going on in the other gourds.

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Congratulations, Steve!

First eggs of the season which will become first hatchlings and first fledglings. I am so happy to see them. Thanks for sharing your news and your photo. I checked back to last year and they're a few weeks later this year. I hope we have a more normal season for the birds, with plenty of rain and comfortable temps.

Let the season begin!

Best wishes to you for a good year!
Sincerely,
Laverne

Just watched the world news and there calling for more drought in Texas and Florida, I just wish the weather would be normal again.

That is great news, Steve !!

I have many martins here in Louisiana and early this year. March 20 they are nest building already and at the end of the day, my first subadult male, who was not well received by any.

There is still room here in my 2 Trendsetter 28s, and I have over 40 martins already...Last year I did not have nests until April 10...I wish you well, and congrats on the eggs !!
Robin's Nest for purple martins in memory of Mr. Bands. (Mr. Bands came 2010 from New Jersey as a 2 year old. 2011, he CAME BACK TO US, but found dead inside a cavity at start of 2011 season.) 2010- 53 fledged, 2011- 75 fledged, 2012- 109 fledged. Using 2 28 Trendsetter units.
