Martins in Ks ???

Saw where there were two reports in Ks but neither one has history of posting before..hell I have 20 inches of snow on the ground and 20 degree temps.. and no gourds up yet

..can't imagine them flying through Oklahoma with their bad weather also..hopefully they saw starlings instead..

I think the Daily's have reported scouts before. Hopefully it's the same starling since Elk Falls and Elk City are about twenty miles apart. The Martin's still need to be in Texas with "Rocky Road" now on it's way. I'm beginning to dislike snow as I haven't shoveled this much in years, Thanks to Q.

If you click on the city, both landlords have several years of reporting history - I know the weather is not very martin-friendly, but hope these birds will make it. They are a tad early, but within 2 week window (early or late), it averages out to normal in the long run.

LC, I love ya, but these bird are more than a tad early.

earliest ever recorder for both sites by 2 weeks plus.

Expecting nearly a foot of snow today. We are not suppose to get above 36 for the next 5 days. Affraid the early birds may pay the price this season. Nearly a foot in the elk city area too.

I guess I need to open up some cavities. Elk city is an hour west.. there could be birds in town right now.

I got my Trendsetter ready this weekend as it looks like the "trend" (hahaha), is "2 weeks early" and I'll be at my Mom's house next week.

Everyone in the middle states should be gearing up with crickets to do some supplemental feeding!

There is a March 7 arrival in 2009, but true that is the only one within 2 weeks of this year's reports. Those are in your neck of the woods alright, and it's too bad the weather is so poor. edit - looked at weather report, poor does not begin to describe it! Stay safe, friends in KS. The wiser martins will start arriving after it's nicer!

if they are martins i dont see any chance of making it 1 degree thursday nite and blissard conditions tue and wed, 14 plus inches forecast here,no insects around here for quite awhile,maybe they will sence the storm and head south.

Ah, crap. I hate seeing this. Tony we about the same 20" on the ground. From our headstart last week of 13. Weather.com has us expecting 5 to 8 today and 2 to 4 overnight. I hope our NNE sustained 28 mph winds gusting to 35 will keep them south. The last three days, although cold, I can see them coming up with the wind down.

Dang it. Such a mixed bag of conditions. On one hand it is a curse for the birds right now but a blessing to turn around our drought later.

Well, all my snow is gone....but so is my one lone Martin. Yucky cool, wet weather forecast for all week.

Somebody just re-gained a martin in Texas as it waits for warmer temps in our area Don! He'll be back soon enough. Nasty weather over here right now - thunder sleet and snow!

Yeah, I was looking for the middle of March. They're just too darned early this year. I'm not ready yet anyway. New T-14 partially primered today. I hate to paint. Any one want to volunteer ??? I like the sawing and assembly but dread when it is time to paint. Just bought a new table saw and building is so much easier now. No measuring, drawing lines, and fighting the skil saw and jig saw now. Just set the fence and go for it. Did have a little problem with the gables, but finally figured it out. "read the instructions and look at the pictures"
