Martins return to Round Rock

Heard that familiar singing this morning, looked out and there was a solid purple male sitting on my T14. :grin:

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy that unmistakeable vocalization announcing the arrival of Spring. We may still have some cold weather -- but, Spring gets sprung when the first Purple Martin comes home. :wink:

Martin Colony History: Had my site up to 22 gourds of which most (+/-3) stayed occupied.
Downsized to 17 gourds due to back surgeries. Had 14 families in 2017 but did not do nest checks due to health. Feeling better in 2018 and hoping for a good year.

Yeehaw, so exciting isn't it? You have to do the happy dance now. :wink:

I was doing the happy dance, lol. He left about 20 min. after he showed up and then returned this evening to stay warm. Its supposed to drop down to forty or so, he has a nice warm house.

Martin Colony History: Last colony I had was in 2015.

Thank you, same to you. This evening we were up to five. We had 3 ASY males and 2 ASY females. I have a good feeling about this year, as long as it keeps raining off and on.

Martin Colony History: Colony started - 2007 with one pair
As of 2018 - 84 cavities offered, max # of pairs hosted - 82.
