Martin Colony History: Last colony I had was in 2015.

My highlight was truly just amazed and blessed to have aprox
13 pair of purple martins nest and fledge young at our new
home it being the first year here. Since it had taken us
little over 5yr's the trying to be landlord's at our
old place. And the most memorable part was some of my older asy's
following my vehicle very vocal back and forth down the road as I moved.
I would make 2 to 4 trips a day and when I would stop and get things out
of my truck they would dive overhead and seem to be fussing at me for
moving there housing. We did try to place it in same order as at old site.
and were only aprox 4 foot ball fields away from where there old housing
sight was. And that is what makes me smile and keeps me amazed.

Hi Barry,
yes you are correct , IT was very early in the year and they were
really active. Some of my asy males seem to already have paired with
a female. I know we were totally in shock to see some of our martins
actually make the move with us. But never in a 100 years did we think they
would actually stay here and start a new colony at a new site.

wishing you the best of luck this year!!!

First was having my first pair of Martin nest after so many years of trying and then having three little ones fly from the box to the near by electric wires. It was BEAUTIFUL. The female only laid three eggs and raised three birds so that was the Highlight of my summer Louise. Dave Woofter

After years of trying, we finally found success this past season. Five martins all showed up and moved in on the same day (an amazing Saturday for us). We initially had two nesting pair and one lone male - all 2nd year birds.

The lone male dried desperately to lure another female into his gourd for weeks. He would bring 'girlfriends' by, but none seemed to want him. He also had other antics, like snatching nesting material from the other gourds while the birds were away or not paying attention. We started calling our lone male "Buster" for some reason. He just seemed like a Buster to us.

The highlight of the season was when Buster finally found a female to accept him and move into his gourd. We were very happy for Buster and it was amazing to have each of our three pair successfully fledge young.

I'm very excited about this coming season!
