The First Scout
Spotted my first male scout about 12-30 today. i was sitting on the porch thinking what a be beautiful day it was after the storm had passed when I heard him singing at first i thought it was amocking bird but then I saw him flying around happy to be home.

Congratulations, Steve. I didn't expect to see a report when i signed on this afternoon --- but there yours was! So exciting. Now we can sit and watch them come north.
In West Virginia, today, we are enjoying (?) an ice storm, and I wouldn't want to see any of my martins arrive right now, but at least we can watch martins arrive at other landlord's sites. Enjoy!

2009. 98 eggs, 66 hatch, 61 fledged.
2010. 114 eggs, 89 hatch,70 fledged.
2011. 96 eggs. 80 hatch,68 fledged.Heavy Merlin preditation.
2012. 89 eggs. 56 hatch, good fledge. Guards installed. Merlin not sighted at houses.
2013. First Egg May 24, first Baby June 13.
2014. successful.
2015. successful.
2016. Martin's population decline, suspect new housing in the neighborhood. Merlin eating well also!
2017.Population explosion
. first egg May 25 in a BO-11
2018. Population stable.

Steve, my site has different arrival times; seems to go in a pattern; I believe because the older ones die after a few years (those who come early) and the newer ones take time to get their act together and mature. Just my thoughts...hope your Martin has his feathers fluffed up...been cold out!
