Hi Deby.
That is a great looking Mini-Castle!
Just a couple of quick comments. I noticed you got the house assembled, and erected, approx a month ago.
This would've placed you well after the necessary time window for attracting nesting pairs to your house, which is probably the main reason for the lack of nesting interest.
Also, Martins are much more tolerant of being very close to human-built structures like houses, and buildings, than they are of being near trees.
Just from the photos you posted, in my humble opinion, it appears that that you have a site that could definitely attract Martins.
I've seen numerous Martin houses very close to building and houses (closer than 10 feet), teaming with Martins.
Anyway, just wanted to throw that our there.

Chris - thanks so much for posting the pics! Matt - I'm sure they'd come but honestly I don't think I'm up to it. They need a misting system as it's really hot here w/all the cement. I simply can't afford that. I understand they'll oft times jump to their death due to heat - or whatever. Being one of the biggest animal advocates I know, this would absolutely wreck me! I would not be good having dead or dying babies - or even worrying about this happening. I obviously didn't think this thru prior to moving on it and I could just kick myself. It is a beautiful home and I'd love for somebody else to have it and let the Martins come to them. I've invested so much in this thing and the $400 I'm asking won't even help me break even. I just want it, and the martins to have a fabulous home so I can relax. Again, please share everybody! Thanks for posting the pics Chris and for your thoughts Matt;-) Have a beautiful day!

Have you considered looking for another nearby location that is suitable - maybe a park or nature area? You can get the benefit of having martins and also making others aware.

Also, my personal view is don't get hung up on avoiding any potential for having to confront the death of some martins. Look at the big picture of what you would be accomplishing for the species and many individuals. Sometimes that comes with the cost of accepting a certain amount of death as part of the natural process.

Don't mean to be lecturing or imposing my views, just offering a perspective.

Thanks Dan - But there is no place else as I live in the suburbs and must have a city permit for everything! Also, I'd like somebody to have this that'll really enjoy it and them. In looking at the big picture, no matter if it's in my yard or somebody else has it in theirs. The martins will get the same benefit of having a lovely home. I've just no time and definitely not the heart for this. I've put stoppers in for the winter and it's still brand new! Never been lived it! Please lemme know if you hear of anybody in the market. Share with all you know and then some! I ask you all to do the same please. Would LOVE for somebody to have this open for these guys by January or February - when scouts show up. Again, thank you Dan;-)

The post alone is $125, house at $325 (least I was able to find), and not that it matters to anybody else, but I spent a ton of $ on labor. Lord knows I could never put this thing together! Hundreds of pieces! The one you found for $360 - was it assembled and did it include the post? If so please shoot me the link! [email protected]. Thanks much;-)

Sorry to say, but I think ap is correct. probably going to have to take a hit on the house or try again this spring. I like that idea myself.

If need be I'll try again in Spring. Not going anywhere myself and this baby is sealed up for the winter so it'll still be brand new. Just thought it'd make a great holiday gift. I really do think this is a great deal. For anybody that's not an engineer and has put one of these together - you gotta agree w/me. Assembly is flat nuts! Thanks!!

Thank you, but am not wanting to keep it at all. Hence the fact that it's for sale. Please spread the word and thank you again!

Wow - good deal! 1 small factor - have you ever tried to assemble one of these babies? I spent about $100 and 5 hours to get that done. If you've done it b4, kudos to you. If not, ask around and I think you'll find $40 is a small price to pay to assemble well over 100 small parts. I live in Carrollton so you're more than welcome to pick up. And, if you're serious I'll let it go for $375. Again, I"m not desperate - not in the way and all sealed up. Just want it to be ready to go come February when the scouts show. Also have an entire years subscribtion to the "Purple Martin Bible" (Nature society actually:-) and that goes with it. Lemme know if you're serious and we'll hook something up.
Thanks for looking that up - that's a good guide to go by. And again, that extra $40 is a song compared to assembling it your self. You have a lovely evening and i do hope to hear back from ya!
