I have barn swallows nesting in my barn again, they built on top of an old 10 year old nest.
These guys will be out of the nest soon, it doesn't take them long.

Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.

Awww, they are so-o beautiful. Great photo!!

Love the picture , thanks for posting it !

I'am a huge fan of the barn swallow ,they are captivating beautiful birds that eat mosquitoes ( I think not sure )

I put a few wooden ledges (shelves )on the outside of my PVC sided garage hoping to attract barn swallows ,but so far I have not .
I think my tree swallows are keeping the barnies away ?
Next season I will move the tree swallow box to the garden .

Sorry to see the damage the extreme weather the other night has had on your colony

Here in South Central Missouri we seem to have had an explosion of Barn Swallows this year. We always have a couple of nests in the barn, but this year we have six. I love watching them fly around over the barn and pond. It does make it kind of interesting to get hay out of the barn for the horses when the barn swallows are dive bombing me.

Martin Colony History: I moved to South Florida, from Delaware, in August of 2015.

I care for a 6 condo Sunset House as well as two Deluxe Gourd Racks, with 24 Chirpynest/Excluder gourds, along a canal in Pompano Beach, Florida.

At Quiet Waters Park, nearby in Deerfield Beach, I care for a Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 TVG's. I also care for a Deluxe Gourd rack with 12 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder entrances. I am substituting 6 Chirpynest boxes for 6 of the Conley II entranced gourds in 2026.

At another local park, Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek, I care for a Trendsetter 12, 5 gourds rack with 60 Excluder gourds with Modified Excluder Entrances and 1 Deluxe Gourd Rack with 12 Troyer Vertical Gourds with Starling Stoppers over the Conley II's to keep out smaller starlings.

Great photo!

I notice here along the bay the barn swallows have taken to building nests under the wooden boat docks.

When I lived over in MD I used to notice them building under overpasses when the overpass crossed an open park area.
