Misting gourds or houses - do any of you have wells?

We are going to try to rig up something early tomorrow morning and we were trying to figure a way to mist the gourds. We've come up with an idea, but our question is, do any of you that are misting have wells? I know it won't take a lot of water to mist, but I don't want the well to go too low. We figure we can cut the mist on for a bit, cut it off, turn it back, etc., during the day, leaving it on during the hottest part of the day. And we also have an idea for shade with some cardboard as a short term type of thing as we don't have the time to do anything better since the heat will get here too quickly. We won't use cardboard shade with a mister, we're just going over all different things we can try in a hurry.

You really shouldn't need to run the mister except during the hottest part of the day. Say 3 to 5; 4 to 6. The point of a mister is to use the smallest amount of water possible. I don't think your well will be challenged by this amount of use. If it proves that I am wrong -- please accept my apologies.

After bouncing around a few ideas, I came up with a way to set up a mister in about 10 minutes, although I did have the main piece. A ten-foot length of PVC pipe. I ran the garden hose through it, attached the pistol grip sprayer (set on mist) to the hose, squeezed the trigger and jammed the handle down into the pipe. I clamped the pipe to one of our gourd rack poles. Went back up to the house and turned the water on. It didn't take much pressure. After about 10 minutes of being skeptical of this apparatus, the birds started to dip through the mist. I don't know where all the birds were at 7:30 p.m., but by 8:00 p.m. they were all enjoying a shower. I hope they can cool their babies as I don't want to spray the gourds directly.

Very good idea Rob!!!! We do have a well so I know what your concern is.

My husband, the king of rigging, and who works for a water well service advises to go to a lawn n garden center and get plant misters. A good mister would be minimal to your well. He suggests that you will need a filter because the mister opening is so small.

We have a well and we run it all the time for watering. He told me that we have great water here but some people don't. An hour away they have one that does just their house and that's it.

Huh, the things we take for granted and don't even realize it.

i live a mile from the kansas river and i can run my water all day ive never been able to drain my well.i know my martins frequent the river especially when it gets hot!!

Here was my simple solution - I spent about $50 on supplies at Home Depot
