I have one gourd with 6 nestlings about 2 wks old growing quite nicely. It is nice to see them have all this extra room to stretch out and not be so cramped in the house.
Another nest of 6 eggs had all hatch within the past two days.
I still have another nest of 5 eggs still to hatch, one with 2 eggs, and one with 4 eggs.
In the house that I have two pair in, one that had 5 eggs only 4 hatched. They are just a day or so behind my oldest ones in the gourd. I waited several days to take out the egg that didn't hatch and checked it. It didn't have any damage but holding it in front of a flashlight in the dark of our basement, I didn't see anything in it either.
The other pair in the house laid 8 eggs! When I took down the house yesterday morning I could see the tiniest puncture in an egg coming from the inside, and by noon he had made his way into the world. I was standning at the kitchen window around 6:30 last night and saw the dad come out with a piece of a shell. I went out and sure enough a 2nd had just hatched. It was so neat to see him still in part of the shell. I helped him slip it off and laid the piece by the side so the parents could take it.
I'm so excited to have gone from 5 fledglings last year, to 36 eggs, and 18 babies as of last night.
