Martin Colony History: Well established 90 cavity colony. Mostly plastic gourds with some custom cedar houses atop pilings out over the river. We live stream the activity on our website https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXKqSW ... Ph2tywu4eg

We are on the Maurice River. The Maurice is brackish and tidal. It meets the Delaware bay about three miles down at East Point, NJ. The area is remote and consists of dense marshland and swamp. Dragonflies abound.

Swallows arrive in mid August and finish nesting mid July. There is a large annual roost in mid August upriver a few miles at Mauricetown.

Try this nest cam out:

Thanks for sharing...it will come in handy when all of mine are gone. (I can get a PM fix...LOL!!!)
My last regular season nest is about ready to fledge but will have 2 late nests late June early July if they make it with our "TEXAS HEAT"! I have already lost 2 & possibly 3 of 5 babies in an ASY pair's nest...I thought they were supposed to be good parents!!! The SY nest next to this gourd is doing fine...all 5 are about the same size & healthy!
Take Care!!
Lila

2009--1 ASY & 1 SY Pair
2010--6 Pairs
2011--11 Successful Pairs + 1 Late Pair that lost their brood to heat!
2012--18 ASY Pairs & 1 SY Pair---104 eggs so far! 1 SY nest lost to infanticide! :o(

I moved the camera to the rear of the nest looking out.
Good luck Purple Martin Landlords.
