I noticed the other day that a small martin without any feathers was lying on the porch of one of my gourds. If that little fellow died will the martins just take him to the porch and leave it there?

You can please some of the martins some of the time, but you can't please all the martins all of the time.

Hi Joe. Sorry to hear about your loss. I would say yes, that a parent martin pushed this unfortunate little one to the front of the nest. I have 69 active nests this year and so far have found 2 pushed to the front. Some times they will manage to get them completely out and drop them to the ground. Generally if another intruder kills the young you will find more of them injured (pecked) in the nest. Good luck with you and yours this year.
