TEMPORARILY PUT UP BIRD NETTING
CAN I TEMPORARILY PUT UP BIRD NETTING FOR SNAKE PROTECTION TILL I GET MY PREDATOR GUARDS MADE AND UP....THEN I WILL PERMANENTLY USE THE BIRD NETTING TOO!! LIKE THE PICS SHOWED IN THE FORUM.... I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO MAKE NEXT CHECKS IN THE PROCESS, WHILE I DON'T HAVE A PREDATOR GUARD UP....ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED....THANKS CHASE

Some people (like me!) loosely wrap some bird netting around the base of the pole, on the ground. It has worked for me... I've caught three snakes using this method over the past 5 years, and to my knowledge no snake has gotten past the netting.
On the down side, it is not convenient when it's time to mow the grass, and it can get blown out-of-place if it gets windy. I'm considering a more permanent netting arrangement, but keep toying with the idea of using an electric guard, to replace both the netting and the stovepipe-type guard that I also currently use.

Snakes crawl very close to the ground, so a temp trap only 5 to 6 inches tall would trap most snakes. Spray some roundup around the area where the trap would be so that you can keep the area clean.
