Well the #7 nest that was lost, now has three new eggs in it. I was hoping all would fledge before the heat got here.
17 Fledge
17 Babies
23 Eggs, 18 that are good.
I have a gourd with 9 eggs in it, they renested on old eggs.

RR martins, I know what you mean. I'm just down the highway from you in Pflugerville. Have some that should fledge today or tomorrow AND new eggs still showing up. The brutal heat and drought last summer made me lose every baby Martin I had. Hopefully this summer won't be as bad. But it's pretty darn hot already. Wish us all luck!
It is a crazy season but hopefully we will all have enough food for them this year! I lost at least 7 fledglings last year to heat & lack of food in early July!
I am hoping for all of us Texas LLs!!!
I have my first nest fledging later this week & 2 new nests that are just laying eggs! Of course they are on the same pole so I can't be sure how many eggs are in the new nests until the babies finish fledging!!!
Good luck!

I wish everyone good luck. So far we have had a great year. You should see it hear in the evening time with all the parents and fledglings here at the same time, there are martins everywhere you look.

hey rr. I agree. so far this year appears to be much much better than last year. That run on rain about a week ago was SO important. Our site region may have picked up 7 to 8 inches and this after 6 to 7 weeks of nothing with visible signs of wilting in all the plant life.
We have about 20 to 25 birds that should be fledging in about 1 to 1.5 weeks. I'd love it if they all got in the air now as you say before the worse heat gets here. A bird in the air hunting for itself with it's parents is 100% better off then sitting in a gourd waiting to be fed when the heat hits hard.
but as others have said here, we have babies all at different stages with some hatched just this last Sunday and eggs still in the nests. We will need rain in June.
What I am really liking to see when I can is multiple parents bringing back big dragon flies hand over fist consistently. This food item appears to be the key for them.
Rain is life for Martins in this hot region.
