Within a few hours of putting up the new trap, I got to meet the male HOSP that had been plaguing the house for over a month!

i caught 2 hosp [ male and female]at the same time the other day in my spar-a-door trap; both flew out in plastic bag at same time; jr2

richnet12 & jr 2...glad your trap is working for you both!!!
I heard the nasty "chirp chirp" this morning & went out & checked my 2 spare-o-door traps. One was too tight so I loosened it & within an hour...I had trapped not just one but two male hosps...separately that is! I hadn't seen one in quite awhile until today!!! They were hanging out on my MSS-12 house that has at least 6 pairs in expanded compartments with eggs!!!
I'm so glad that the spare-o-door trap works so well & HOSPs can't resist the small hole!!!

2012--18 ASY Pairs & 1 SY Pair---104 eggs so far! 1 SY nest lost to infanticide! :o(

Yes...that hole on the trap door looks awfully small but its nice to know that no other bird will enter. Look foward to a double catch as well.

That's not the case. I've caught several of my blue birds in mine, even though they 'don't fit.' No one told them that. You can also easily catch chickadees and/or titmice in them so it's important to monitor them closely any time you have them set.

I caught a tree swallow in mine, let it go and the next morning he was trapped again.

spar-o-door trap ROCKS!! i have caught LOTS of sparrows with mine, i should be putting notches on the door for each one...but there probably wouldn't be any paint left on it if i did!!

I once caught a Tree Swallow too, though they do not normally go into the small entrance on spare-O-door traps. Titmice, wrens, and chickadees could get it, though, so as Teri stated above, traps have to be monitored - every few hours would be best, but certainly not less than twice a day.
