rr I see that you are fighting the same battle as myself. Hang in there, every one that dies is that many eggs that will not be laid to hatch.
Keep on killing until the battle is won.

You can please some of the martins some of the time, but you can't please all the martins all of the time.
Some of these sparrows are pretty smart (I don't have a starling problem yet). Once you take a shot and miss, they seem to know what you are up to. I had one flying up, peering over, under, and around the house at me if I was in plain sight. It was quite funny for a few hours, then I backed my truck down the driveway and used it as a blind. Right before the poof of feathers flew, the fool decided to get a better look at my pretty truck from the top perch.
2010: two pair nested, 1 bird fledged.
2011: starlings/sparrows destroyed nests. I shut down the house early to save PM lives.
2012: new T-14 with SREH, & a Beeman R7. Four fledged this year.
2013: Destroyed many house sparrows, but fledged 21 PM's!

That truck blind trick works, especially when you have a sparrow that takes off immediately when it spots you with a gun, sometimes you have one that figures out what you're doing, then you can resort to the sparrows can't count trick, have someone go with you to the truck carrying a stick or rod resembling a gun barrel then have them leave while you stay hidden in the truck.
