no birds

HELP!!! I have had birds about 3 years ago but the birds seems to be falling off as the years go by until this year no birds no problem with snakes but have seen some hawks my neighbor took his poles down and his birds left about 2 years ago he said they want return because of the hawks someone give me some hope thanks rob

Can you give us some more info as to what you typically do? Like when you open your housing, nest checks, ect?

Also do you have any photos of your site layout?

The folks here are good at throwing ideas out.

Hey Rob. I have to repeat Dorn's question. We need more information. Something is happening to cause the Purple Martins to leave your site.

I went back and checked your posts and discover you have been talking about declining numbers since 2008. But, reading those posts, I still don't know anything. Do you have trees that have grown up near the housing? Maybe multiple trees that are affecting you and your neighbor? Maybe it wasn't the hawk, but rather an owl. Are you able to lower your housing? Are you sure it wasn't a snake? Snakes come and go without leaving a trace -- the birds just disappear. You've got to catch the snake "red handed" or catch him in snake netting to know for sure.

I can tell you are concerned. I'm concerned, too. We don't want you to lose your Purple Martins. They may be gone - but, you can get them back. But, your housing must be attractive to them. Sounds like you will have to start over. You said your neighbor quit and took down his housing. Are you willing to work to rebuild your colony?

thanks dorn county and laverne for answering my help plee no there is no difference in the trees and I haven't seen any owls have seen hawks not seen any snakes keep grass cut in yard I have raised birds in same place before I will try to post some pictures if some one emails me with direction on how to do it at [email protected] and I really do want to get them back
