These are my are my new gourd racks for the 2012 season. Everything was homemade last year and I had to climb a ladder to do nest checks. :-( Alot of brand new gourds as I expanded to 90 cavities sold 3 of my trio houses. I have 16 martins in residence at this time..Soooo, I need to get busy and fill these bad boys up...

Nice set up. I believe I don't see any predator guards. That is the next thing to do. Especially a pole guard, so snakes, squirrels and racoons do not go up the pole and eat your martins and or there eggs.

Have a good season.
Steve Thomas (LeRoy,Il) trying since 2003, visitors 2006 & 2007 had 1 visitor.
2009 had 6 visitors, 3ASY & 3females(1 male serious)
2010 1ASY male & 1ASYfemale, May 9, 2010 I became a landlord
2011 They came back. Got cold .they left. Never came back. starting over.

Hey Tony,

Thanks for sharing those photos of your "updated" purple martin colony with us!

You really have some fine looking and high quality housing systems. My favorite is the Gemini and yours looks so good!

Your colony site is perfect for martins with all that open space. It looks like the martins can fly level to their nests from all directions.

I am sure you will have a thriving martin colony this season. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

Hey Tony I know you'll be glad when they fill up...My site has approximately 40 martins in residence with 124 cavities offered so I know what you mean.

With that open of area you shouldn't have any problem!

Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.

Great looking set up you have Tony. Looks like a perfect area to host a large colony. Thanks for sharing your photos and Best of Luck for the season!

All I can say is WOW!!!! You have made some serious investment in your site! I only wish I had bought CUE gourd racks to start with! I now have 2 & love them!
I sure hope to get more pairs this year but am a little concerned because of the losses we all had from the drought last season!!!
Hope you have a great season!!!
Take Care!!

Very, very nice Tony. You'll fill those racks in no time.
