I've had a visitor all day -- an ASY female -- she perched on the rack, would leave for a while, then come back -- then she went into the Excluder and stayed for about a half hour -- doesn't mean she'll be staying for good, but it's enough to have me doing the happy dance right now!!

That's really good news! Hope she finds a mate and stays.

Sounds very promising! I know it sounds crazy but make sure she sees you....not too close to scare her but just in the general area or on the porch or deck.
For some reason it seems to reassure them when they see their new landlord.......yep that could be you!!
Don't be surprised if she comes and goes the next few days..she just might be looking for her new man to join her.
Keep us posted!

Thanks, everyone! Here is an update. Now there is someone else who just went into a THG -- think a male, but I haven't been able to get a good enough look yet. I did walk past the rack (about 20 feet away) with the Lady Martin watching me from the Excluder. She'd run off a HOSP earlier, then I ran off another HOSP who unfortunately for it flew to an evergreen tree where I had a perfect shot at it. So, on the way to remove "the deceased" I talked to her, didn't get too close, and she watched me and did not hide or fly away. Right now I only have three gourds open. The entrances to the others are plugged with foam pipe insulation, so that the HOSP wouldn't get in. But now that some Martins are showing interest, do you think it would be good to open up maybe half of the gourds? (I have 16 altogether -- 4 each of Excluders, Super Gourds, THG, and Troyer Verticals.) Thank you for your encouragement and advice! Nancy p.s. Jeff, I am trying to get photos posted -- am having technical difficulties

WOOOO!!! HOOOO!!! Nancy
Good for you. Hope she stays. It won't be near as hard for her to find a mate as it would be for a male.
I wonder why that is?

Congrats nancy hopefully they will stay with you. Glad to hear your eliminating the flying rats in your area. Every time I go to town and I'm in the wal-mart, burger king, etc parking lots I just cringe at all the HOSP's I see. I can keep my little corner of the world safe but unfortunately these pests are here to stay.

So do you have an update for all of us wishing you the best?
Did you see the birds again today? Did they spend the night?
Inquiring minds want to know....

Hi, Everyone!
Tony -- Yeah, seems to work that way with the birds, for some reason!
Hope you have some purpleness to report very soon!
TonyG -- Yes, thanks, I took your advice and opened some more gourds -- equipped with nice, warm pine needles. We're not that far from Wichita and you're just a bit farther -- they're definitely on their way to you!
TheCav-MO -- I had to chuckle, because I do the same thing -- cringe at the HOSP -- usually muttering something like "scum-beak HOSP" through clenched teeth, suggesting to people within earshot that they should stay away from me. Looks like the Martins are close to you -- are yours home yet?
Mingjo Martins -- Thanks for those wishes -- please keep 'em coming! I wish that there was a happy-dance report today. It was cool today, dreary and drizzly, and we even had some sleet. I didn't see a trace of anyone purple.
But also, I was gone most of the day to the OKC area. Just by chance I stopped at the Visitor's Center and they had a little stuffed PM. So cute! When you push the squeaky, it even sings PM! I may wear it around my neck as an amulet to bring good Martin fortune and ward off S&S!
I will keep you all posted. Thanks so much for your posts! By the way, thanks to whoever corrected the spelling in the title of my original post -- got so excited about the visitor that I forgot how to spell! Best wishes to all!
