I checked my notes from the last few years and in the most recent 2 years(2011 & 2010), my TRES have shown up on the same day as the martins. In the 2 years prior to that (2009 & 2008), the TRES were 2 weeks earlier than the martins.
The temp is supposed to soar to 70 deg. here today, with 40 mph winds out of the *south*. Will see what happens!
First Tree Swallow has arrived today - 3/6!!

Kathy,
My TS's usually show up about a week or so before the martins. This year it was 5 day's........so make sure you are sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and watch the skies. I'll be over after work

Kathy,
Might be yours, Keith's and my martins reported in Columbia and Sedalia today! Ferocious southerly winds blew em plumb over us, so they'll rest and return when it calms a little!

- Martin Colony History: 85 pair in 2020. Seems fairly consistent the last few years.
KathyF,
I've been watching for your Martin report. I'm beginning to think my Martins can't find So Mo. until yours show them the way. Jeff may be correct about these winds. This may be the first year Martins have to return south to their nesting site here! "ha" Good luck this year.

....laughing at your exclamation Tim!
I've never put up a gourd(s) for TRES, but I think I will this year since they seem to be a favorite amongst many as a predecessor to martin arrivals. I've seen them flying around here occassionally, but never on my martin housing. I'll have to do a little research on caring and setting up for TRES tonight and get the setup done this weekend.
Hoping to hear Kathy's exclamation soon!
