First martin of year.

Hi everyone. I pulled into my driveway at 1135 today and immediately saw a ASY male circling my yard. Here in south Georgia I usually get the first Martins around the 3rd week of February. What a surprise to see this guy so early. Both of my poles were even lowered because I had
cleaned them out last weekend. So I ran to the backyard and hoisted them up and in he went. And this evening right at dusk I heard him calling as he flew around the yard looking for his buddies. But he is all by himself so far as he went into a gourd for the night.
I hope this year is not as hot as it was last year.

I am about 70 Miles to the south from you In Quitman Ga. Near Valdosta
and no Martins Yet here.

Martin Colony History: Had a colony many years ago which dwindled over a couple of years and then did not return. Kept trying each year for almost 20 years and finally had a small success in 2011 with two pairs nesting. Colony has grown slowly each year with 22 pairs in 2015. In 2016 my gourd rack of 18 gourds filled up so I added 4 more gourds and then put up a small rack of 6 gourds. All of those were claimed within a few days so I believe I have at least 25 pairs this year.

That's wonderful news Larry. Hope that early bird attracts lots of friends to fill you colony this season.

Hello Griddog, Yes we have a lot of Kite's here in south Georgia!!
My wife and I are always looking for The Kites. It is a very impressive Bird. Still No Martins Yet here. We keep watching the skies.
