I'm thinking its about time for watching acouple webcams. The old clips just don't do it. :-(

I'm speaking of the southern webcams. Just wanted to clarify that.

Hi Annie. Yes there has been a lot of development over the last few years regarding webcams. Several new online streaming-video providers make getting your content online easier than ever including "Ustream". I also checked-out a new system from Logitech that's sold as "home security" but they make an "outdoor camera" that's really made for installing under an overhang but still, you can use an extension cord out to your housing and not ethernet cable and it has a full-time server that streams the video out to the Internet or even to your smart phone and can do motion detection and alarms and you don't need a dedicated "always-on" computer for it. Check it out. The Logitech systems were on display at a local "Best Buy" store. At the store they were bundling a "base station" with an indoor or an outdoor camera depending on what you want and you can add additional indoor or outdoor cams if you want. The "base station" works with a combination of indoor / outdoor cams. A basic system with a single cam runs about $550.00 I think.

Thanks Fred for the information you gave me. I'll keep it in mind for the future, should I ever get any martins to nest here. :) Good luck to you this season! Thanks again, Ann

Martin Colony History: 1 gourd rack with 24 gourd capacity. 2018, my 11th year hosting martins.
18 pair in 2017.

Going to need a few more birds before we start seeing nest cams.

Fewer people seem to be broadcasting their Purple Martins than used to. My own cam is off and on during the season, depends on what's happening in life.

Thanks Gene! I know there were about three last year that had them going for us to watch. Martins R US had one, along with Randal Rash and Gus Strangeland. Hopefully they will be back up and running again soon. Good way to pass these long winter days. Annie
