- Martin Colony History: Started in 2001 with one Chuck Abare style 16 gourds rack. The past several years I have three of these gourd racks now. 48 gourds total. Maybe six plastic and the rest natural. Mixture of vertical, horizontal, single and double gourds. Tunnels on most and all sreh holes. Predator guards(bird netting) on each pole. Also have a S&S repeating trap in area. Shotgun and pellet gun help too. Usually all gourds occupied.
Hello all, I haven't posted on the forum in awhile. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has attached Troyer tunnels to super gourds? I've put some on natural ones no problem and they worked great. I was wondering if there is a good adhesive to bind them? This past season was very good. Still working on finishing up my nest data sheet this weekend. Been super busy with my young family and a new job. I have a mix of large natural gourds, some with Troyer tunnels, some double naturals and a few 10 year old super gourds. The super gourds use to be first pick but now it's the others. 40 total and plan on expanding to 48. This is a great site and keep up the good work.

Hey Mike,
Welcome back to the Forum!
A late friend of mine used many Troyer tunnels on her Super Gourds. She cut out an appropriate size hole in the front of the Super Gourd and inserted the Troyer tunnel. She used a great adhesive called Lexel. It really holds well and I have used a lot of Lexel in the past to attached PVC tunnels, plastic access doors, and metal rain canopies to natural gourds. Lexel works well on a variety of materials.

Hi Mike,
I plan on updating all my super goards with tunnels over the winter. Lexel is what I'll be using as mentioned in the above post. I will be making my tunnels with pvc and homemade entrances with porches and traction in the tubes.

I have used gloss white bathtub caulk on mine and it holds up well and doesn't mildew.
I just traced around the tunnel on the front of the supergourd and cut it out with a jigsaw and then fit and caulked in place.
I've tried lexel and it's just too gooey for me seems more like model airplane cement but thicker , maybe it's just me but lexel's too messy for me. I think I got it on everything but the project!

Lexel holds excellently. It is sticky and gooey, but if you put a small amount of liquid dish soap into a small container, add some water.
Dip your finger into the mixture, and the lexel will NOT stick to your fingers, then you can level it real well..
If you happen to get some Lexel on your hands, you can remove it quickly with acetone, or with fingernail polish.
I like the Lexel because it will stick to any plastic. Some of the caulks or liquid nails will not stick to some kinds of plastic.
EDIT: You can use fingernail polish REMOVER to remove the lexel. Be careful with the acetone, it may not be good for your hands & may burn. Some nail polish removers do not use acetone since acetone is so harsh.
