I know I havn't given a update in a while, so here it is.

After a few weeks after my first martin had arrived my male lost his female(probably died or abandoned). Thankfully he quickly got a new female. I left on vacation on May 21st thinking they would be on eggs by the the time I got back (June 1st) because my pair had started to bring in green leaves. I was wrong when I got back they were still building and to my surprise were actually building a nest(last year they just put some leaves in their gourd and put a few sticks in too) this year brought a substance that is hard like a stick but has the look to straw. After a week of building they finally laid eggs. They laid their first egg on June 9th with a total of 5 eggs. Starting June 13th they started to incubate. The eggs should hatch on June 24th and fledge on July 22.

My first subadult arrived on May 16th. I have had a few subadults and adults visit but none have stayed, so far this season I have only pair.

Martin Colony History: 2010-2014 located in Slidell LA. Gourd rack with 16 gourds. Max of 2 pairs during this short period in Slidell. Plenty of fledglings.

2014-present.. moved to Broussard LA. Same Gourd Rack but added a 6 room house (modified from a 12 room)

2020: after a long drought of nothing, 4 pairs and 4 nests, 23 eggs total.
6 fledges.

2021: 9 pair, 47 eggs
36 hatchlings
30 fledged

2022: about 12 pairs.. many eggs, all fledged.. only had one hatchling die.. probably because of our schnauzer. :(

2023: 16 pairs. So far about 60 chicks with about a dozen eggs to go.

2024: 13 pair. About 60 eggs
2025: 14 pairs .. 69 eggs.

sounds like you're doing OK. good for you!

My only gourd to have babies is going ok. They will be three weeks old on Monday. The parents are bringing in plenty of dragonflies. I hope all three make it to fledge.

Lewy39,

I don't think its corn stalks. Its smaller and more brown. I will send a picture next time I do a nest check.

I had a subby pair check my housing out this morning. Its kind a of late, but who nows I might get another pair.
