13 nesting pair, 58 eggs. Been cold and raining but finally clearing up. 70's today. Two pair nesting in my coates waters edge. Layed their eggs in the entrance compartment, not in their nest. I doubt they will hatch. Eggs are just laying on the alum. floor. How are the rest of my Indiana people doing?

Last nest check last week I had 12 pair, 10 of which had a total of 51 eggs. I had two SY nest that were complete and had a bunch of green leaves. My earliest nest was due to hatch yesterday. I didn't get time to check today so tomorrow I will probably do a nest check and check to see how the hatching is going.

My home site has only one pair. My pair has 5 eggs and they have started to incubate. I also have a subadult male that hangs around. At my public site there aren't any martins there this year. I thought there would be martins there after a pair last year and because the site is very open. Glad you are having a great season.

2010 1 pair at each site. Plus some unmated subadults hanging around at both sites.
2009 Had a lone subadult spend the summer

Martin Colony History: Taking care of 11 active public colonies and trying to start two more in northwestern PA. Also attempting to restart another one in southwestern PA, in Collier Township's Hilltop Park. In 2017, not sure what happened but the ASY male returned and then a couple of weeks later he was gone. It could have been weather related. No other birds showed up. I had a starling nesting at the Public site that I had trouble getting rid of.
In 2018, we fledged 629 martins at all of the sites.

Rich,

I am not sure when the eggs were laid, but it may be worth a shot to either put nesting material under them and build a little bowl for them. Would be better than them laying on the metal floor.

Good luck,

Bill

Thanks Bill. I lowered the house and found green leaves being brought in. I added some pine straw and the birds seem to be bring in more nesting material..Weird they lay the eggs and then build the nest.
