do starlings have a reverse gear?

I have an idea for a starling trap. It will work if starlings get in a 2 inch pipe and can't turn around. To escape the trap they would have to back out. Anyone know the answer?

believe they would back up they are very smart

I found the old house that they are using. I was thinking of placing a swept t (or is that called a y?) fitting inside the entry hole with and drilling another exit hole on the other endof the house so that once the starling enters he will either fall into the sweep opening or have to back out. I'm thinking that if he can see out the other side he may try crossing the sweep instead of backing out.

that might work it's worth a shot my nest box trap is wearing them out i put clinger and conly2 tunnels on it and the big fat round hole on the end they cant resist

I suspect the starling will fall out the bottom of the pipe, then fly back up and go out the way it came in. They can enter a 2" hole from underneath. I think you are talking about a DWV tee, and the inside diameter of that hole would be 2 3/8"

I plan on putting an 8 ft down tube that empties into a holding pen with a BB escape hole provided, so if they do fall in they won't be going back up.
