There is a pair of Barn Swallows visiting my gourd rack for 3 days now. They even look into the gourds even though they do not nest in cavities. I think it is the same pair that is nesting in my corn cob nest I put on my porch.

They may be paying a visit to friends nesting in the gourd rack.

How did you get him to sit still for that photo Bob, they seem like they are in perpetual motion.

So far that is the only excitement I have had, the Tree Swallows and the Barnies doing their acrobatic aerial show for me. I have no shortage of either one. At least it gets the heart rate up, never knowing if there is a Martin mixed in there somewhere.

Keep those photos coming, they are always interesting.

Bill.

Bill: They sit there on the gourd rack a lot. When they look into the gourd they hold onto the owl guard instead of sitting on the porch, almost like they are looking for someone. I have had some strange behavior here this year.

Maybe they think they are Ts or Martins.

I have four pairs of barn swallows (in the barn, of course). The barn is about 50 yards from the martin housing, but I never see the barnies on the martin perches or gourds. I often see the barnies and martins flying over the pond together, feeding and getting water.
