Witnessed Hawk Attack
I have a martin in rehab at Rogers Rehab that was the result of a hawk attack.First I thought I may have accidentally shot him with a stray pellet but Penny never found the pellet and her diagnosis was a Hawk. Then this morning while drinking my coffee out back it was the most frighting thing a Martin landlord can witness a huge brown hawk with all the aggression one of Gods most talented predators can muster it was all over my house. Does anyone have any hawk deterrent tips?

Many landlords use martin decoys on perches around the colony to pull hawks away from real martins - while the hawk is after the 'slow' martin, the real martins get time to escape.
Some landlords wrap their houses with wire cages, keeping hawks and owls from pulling martins off porches.
Please do a search on hawk attack or just hawk and you'll find numerous threads with tips. Also look in forum archives, there are articles there showing the cages.
Hawks and owls are protected just the same as martins - it's illegal to shoot them, shoot at them, trap them, or harm them. Focus on saving martins with decoys, cages, and other methods that are working for many landlords.
