Bluebirds too busy!

Well my combative pair of BBs have a newly hatched family keeping them too busy to harass my visitor PMs.. They did manage to chase off many earlier visitors.. The subbies have begun to arrive this week and a pair were checking out my gourds this am....going in and out...taking off and flying circles and seeing how the flyway is....now if that female will just make up her mind!

Sounds hopeful! I'm still waiting to see some subbies (or even more ASYs) around here. I think they all went to Tim's in Raleigh.

What did you end up doing with the bluebird house?

At first I had the bb house about 40 feet from the gourds...the bbs were building in the box but fighting the pms. So I took the bb box to the other side of the property...about 300 yards away...big mistake as the bbs began building in the gourds..I brought the bb box back to about 90 yards away and finally had to close off the gourds so they would move back to the bb box...poor bbs have had to put up with a lot to finally start their family!

I find this interesting. My blue bird box is 20 ft by my martin rack. Right now he protects their rack from starlings sparrows. Knowing in a box these birds could kill him. I think we all may have bluebirds but just like people they all have a different personality. Some people have know problems ever with them nesting in gourds. Or wrens cracking eggs. I have been lucky to be one of these people. But I'm glad you found a way to keep them in their own box where they can coexist with the martins.

You are absolutely right! I have had some BB's that act like they will eat you alive while I look in their nest, screaming and hollering swooping at my head. But I've had BB's that quietly sit on a line above my head and let me do whatever. I think it was Larrys video the other day that he opened the box and his bird never moved. They are funny!
