Was wondering if there were any type of tunnel out there that would work on the Super Gourd. I like the tunnels that the Bo 11's have and would like to add the protection factor to my Super Gourds..Thanks, Tony

I think you can add any type of tunnel to them - Troyer tunnels, Sandy Bunn tunnels, etc.

Louise is right, you can add any kind of tunnel. Once you have the tunnels in your hand, you press the tunnel against the cavity, trace around it with a pencil, and cut out the hole. Trim it to make it fit, then caulk it into place. Its done the same way on any brand of gourd, or any natural gourd. Some of the most recent tunnels are easy to attach to gourds made by that same company, like S&K tunnels on S&K gourds, just attach them with push pins, you don't need to cut any holes.
Just purchase the tunnel, then attach it as described above.
It seems strange the first time that you attach a tunnel, you get the feeling that you will harm the gourds. Actually, it does not weaken the structure of the plastic gourds to cut the holes. I have even moved the tunnels to a different side and patched the old holes. The amount that you can do exceeds your imagination...Its really fun after you start doing it.

Tony, it's really not to hard at all.
I added some tunnels to my super gourds last week.
I asked the same question on here a couple of weeks ago and did just as
Emil said.
I bought the tunnels I wanted, marked out the opening and cut it out with
a rotozip, it cut through it like butter. I guess a jigsaw would probably
work real well too.
I did however take the access cover off and clamped the gourd to my work bench
to hold it steady, an extra set of hands could work well to, but I was doing it alone.
I got it close and then took a file and finished the shaping for a tight fit.
Then you just caulk around the tunnel real good to hold it in place and make it water tight.
I still have a few that I haven't hung up yet, I will take a picture and try
to post it on here for you tomorrow, I have never posted a picture so
hopefully I can figure it out.
I also took the advice, I think it was from Emil, but I placed the top of the
tunnels with the top of the existing hole, this lowers the bottom of the
entrance, super gourds have deep cavities, and it looks like it will be
better for the martins, they wont have to build as deep a nest to get up
even with the opening.

Thanks so much Louise....Emil and crnman3, thanks also for your replys, good to know others face the same situations.
hope this works...trying to post pics
i use s&k ultimate tunnels, i just cut off the square plate with some tin snips and filed the edge smooth.
i liked the tunnels so much that i am putting them on my natureline gourds
that my father in law gave me this year. i cut out the back side and use part
of that piece to fill in the hole on the removable front so now i have an
access port in the back.
i have been fighting starlings for the last 2 years and hopefully these tunnels
with cresent entrances will stop them.
hope these pictures give you a good idea of how to fix your tunnels
