I have a 8 hole square Coates house and I want to find a sparrow trap that will fit in the 6x6 chambers. Is there one that will fit and work to catch the sparrows?? Thanks, Jim

There is a Universal House Sparrow trap in the PMCA shop that fits in Coates houses - you could give that a try.

The round hole in universal trap does not cover crescent perfectly, so it will fit, but some of the trap might show. The solution to that is simple, you can easily make a shim (false front) to cover the house entrance and trap. Use the white side of lid from cottage cheese or sour cream container. Cut a small round entrance that will admit house sparrows - 1-1/2 inch is good, can go a tad smaller but at least 1-1/4 inch. Fasten that to front of house with masking tape, with shim entrance lined up to show nothing of trap inside. I sometimes attach the shim and let the house sparrows go on building for a day or 2, then add the trap - bingo! A plus to the shim is smaller hole keeps martins out - very like the spare-o-door trap for Trio houses.
This lovely sparrow couple have been working on their nest in my Troyer horizontal with a Conley II entrance for the past week. The nest looks great so I think it is time to trap them - actually I just put the trap in. Now I am worrying about getting them out if I DO trap them or if I manage to trap just one of them, I would like to leave the nest in good condition so that the other one will go into the trap. I really, really, really, hate this part of being a landlord.
So, experienced landlords, how do I get them out of the gourd once they are trapped and how can I (gulp) gently send them on their way to the rainbow bridge? Looking forward to your suggestions.
