Any Martin born in America are naturalized citizens to parents who are also citizens. Same with Canada I recon.
Have I got a lot to wonder about or not???. :P
Also.....does anyone know if they nest in South America or where ever they go, during our winter? In other words....do they nest twice a year?
I wonder if they even put up gourds or houses for them at their winter home. Would the Martins even use them if they did? Are the people as excited about them as we are???
I also wonder if the ones that raise with us all stick together where ever they go in the winter months.
It sure would be interesting to know when you look up at them sitting on the houses....now, just where have you guys been? Exactly where do you stay and with whom when you leave here?
The answer to that would probably start the old "Pen Pal" days all over again like we had when I was in elementary school...
I probably should not even sign my name to this but I will anyway.

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

You may enjoy reading about martins. A couple good places are right above, the "archives" & "martin FAQ"

Another great resource is Stokes Purple Martin Book by Donald and Lillian Stokes & Justin L. Brown. It pretty much explains most of what you need to know about martins.

We like to think about those same kind of things...Last year my husband played some Brazilian music on the patio and we think the martins appreciated it.... what a fun hobby...
