I have the dawn song. Ive been outside in the morning and its quiet. However is really realistic that when you turn up the speakers to the highest setting at the base of your pole that it can be heard by martins miles away? I live in a metro area.
Does anybody know of which Martin calling device to recommend to attach to your pole?
Im not sure how to tackle this one.

Hi there,
I got an outdoor powerhorn from Radio Shack. It was inexpensive. I then ran an outdoor speaker cable from the back of the speaker, across my lawn, to a window. It then went into my house and into a stereo, which I had connected to a computer. The computer had a scheduled task set to run to automatically start up the dawnsong. I had it pointed straight up at the sky, and had the volume up loud enough so I could hear it across the yard. That seemed to draw them in just fine! No need to blast it to the highest level.
Good luck to you!

The simplest way to go is to get a clock radio with a CD player and two alarms. You can set it to 4AM and 5:10AM. All the alarms I've had will play only for one hour and then cut off. Place it on a chair outside covered with a plastic garbage bag to keep the rain off. Be sure to stop playing when you start getting a male hanging around your housing as it might interfere with him attracting a mate. I find that the sound is loud enough. Or you can spend about $50 and buy a songbird magnet, which I understand is also effective and has the dawnsong built in. You will also need a timer as the electric eye built in is not too reliable.
I'll throw in my two cents. I live in a subdivision so my pole isn't very far from my house. I bought an outside speaker off eBay and mounted it on my pole. Then I buried a heavy-duty audio cable that runs back to my house. This attaches to a second sound card in my computer. I can use my computer to schedule when the dawnsong comes on every morning. I can also have it switch to daytime chatter after the dawnsong has finished and even vary the volume levels at different times of the day. Nothing is out in the weather except the speaker and it's water resistant. It's pretty cool and completely controllable. But then, I'm a geek too.Andrew Richards wrote: Does anybody know of which Martin calling device to recommend to attach to your pole?
