- Martin Colony History: Well established 90 cavity colony. Mostly plastic gourds with some custom cedar houses atop pilings out over the river. We live stream the activity on our website https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXKqSW ... Ph2tywu4eg
We are on the Maurice River. The Maurice is brackish and tidal. It meets the Delaware bay about three miles down at East Point, NJ. The area is remote and consists of dense marshland and swamp. Dragonflies abound.
Swallows arrive in mid August and finish nesting mid July. There is a large annual roost in mid August upriver a few miles at Mauricetown.
Good luck Purple Martin Landlords.

Tenth year as a landlord. Started with 9 pair the second year housing was up ,2004. Now have 32 pair here in town, and 38 pair at the farm. Life is truly good
I uploaded some pictures of my four martin houses in Deer Park, TX. The martin's favorite one was given to us by Emil Pampell several years ago when I noticed martins a few yards away fighting for their housing which was full of sparrows. The landlord had moved, and the young couple that purchased the house had no interest in maintaining the housing. That was the beginning of our love affair with the birds!

I changed your link to Gobbler's Knob. You must have a few turkey around those parts.

Hugh, thanks - yes, quite a few! Although now that we have more quail on our property than turkeys, I may have to change our name!hughrichards wrote:I changed your link to Gobbler's Knob. You must have a few turkey around those parts.
