Venting a T14

O.K. I have my 90 pvc elbows, and my caps. getting ready to vent my T14. How far back in the next cavity(on the side) do they need to be? All the way to the back, midway or does it even matter? Next dry and sunny day this will be my project. Figure I will use silicon to prevent them from falling out. I have 3/4 in elbows. Figured this would be best for those 100 plus days in KY.

Question,
I understand it gets alot hotter there than here and for longer spells. I vented my T-14's by drilling 1/4" holes along both sides of nest box( drilling upwards to prevent rain getting in), now would that suffice? Iam just curious as overheating has not been a issue here?

It might. But it is hot over 100 many days w/o any breeze. Very humid also. I have read several posts and articles and they just used pvc, so I will look into drilling holes, may be better.

Shannon,

Steve Kroenke covered this subject last month under the topic Venting my THG's with street elbows. It just might be what your looking for.

Tom

Sorry Shannon, I should of been more careful when I read your post I had gourds on my mind.

I was going to direct you to Wyatts idea but it has already been linked in the thread above. The only good thing about having weak carpentry skills is that there are several small gaps in my T14 that will allow some ventilation.

I installed one 2" vent for each of the 14 cavities. They are easily installed with a 2" hole drill bit and a little caulk. The angle of the vents prevents rain from entering. You can get a pack of for about $7 at Lowes.

Thank You Grady!!!!

Those are a great idea....I will inform my husband, he is building a T-14 for me and could add these with no problem. I'm so glad this topic has come up, I wouldn't of thought to vent the house and it can get pretty steamy here in middle Tennessee during the spring and summer, as usual THANK U.....

Great ideas and photos. Thanks for all the help. I do like the idea of the 2 in vents those look good too, will have to check costs. I did buy plugs for the pvc elbows for the early April arrivals, so they would not get chilled. I figure I can remove them once it gets warmer.

Oh wow! When I first read this I was wondering why you had 90 pvc elbows for one T-14 house! But you meant 90 degree elbows !!!LOL
