I think we are all bored a little bit. At least I am.
Last year I had this sparrow that I could not get. So this was my answer. I waited until the sparrows were nesting and with this trap. I tied a string from my fishing pole to this bolt. I waited untill after dark and pulled the bolt off the porch. And the hole was pluged. I waited till the next morning so I wouldn't disturb the martins. And I had both male and female.
This is not an answer to all sparrow problems. But it can be used on hard to get sparrows. Or in town when guns can't be used.
It is cheap and easy to make. String and a butter lid.
This is basic box trap 101 Ha Ha

Better to have a gun and not need it.
Than need one and don't have it.

Not real sure how it works yet... was the bolt propped up under the crescent entry flap?

So, did you add the trap on the front of the gourd 'after' the sparrows started nesting? I always have problems getting them to re-enter the trap, when I try to devise something on the door. They seem to know something's not right.

Dear Kathy
I do add the trap after the sparrow's are nesting.
The gourds I have are excluder's and they have a porch on the inside and outside.
I lay the door to the trap on the inside of the gourd. [flat down] The string is attached to the door laying on the inside of the gourd. The string runs through the cresent opening, On the outside the string is attached to the bolt. When I pull the bolt off the porch it jerks the door up and against the inside of the gourd.
Here is the trap after it has been set off.
Simple but it works.
Sorry I didn't explain myself better. Jerry
