Remember the New York Times article? Martha Stewarts producer called me and asked if I would like to be on the show. I will be on for 12 minutes, explaining about Purple Martins, and the last part of the segment, Martha and I will be making a martin home from a natural gourd.

It will air live on Tuesday Oct 5 on the Hallmark Channel at 10 am EST.

I've known about this for a while... I wanted to make sure it was "for real" before I made an annoucement. Wish me luck.

Larry

That is exciting news  Thanks for sharing it. We know you will do a terrific job of telling folks about martins... and you get to do it with Martha!

Larry, I am so excited for you AND for the purple martin community.

I believe you are one of the very best purple martin ambassadors we have today, and have no doubt that you will do a superb job of informing the viewers and sharing good information.

Paul and I hope you have a wonderful and safe trip to NYC, and can take a few moments to enjoy the energy of the city. You will probably be very glad to return home to some peace and quiet, however, we hope the time you spend doing what you do so well will be productive and satisfying.

Your prior speaking experiences and educational programs at Bernheim should make you feel very confident, so we only hope will remember your roots when you become a star. You are always a star in our eyes, so just enjoy the experience and the trip.

LOL at Dick's reply.........."no martins in Hollywood"........giggle!
Ever-Grateful,
Linda

Larry,
What wonderful news, not only for you, but for all purple martin landlords. You are a perfect choice to present this show, and many will be pulling for you in spirit. May you enjoy the trip and experience, and may it be a prelude for many more opportunities in your life. You have worked hard to earn this opportunity and have helped many--always with humility and passion. We hope you have a wonderful time and we will all be watching.
Good luck and best wishes,
Friends in Texas

Hey Larry,

Congratulations! I know you will do a great job in promoting purple martin conservation! There are a lot of people in this country who don't know what a martin is. That is going to change with you on the show!

Friends,
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I am more nervous of saying the right thing for the purple martin landlords that will be watching. I have spoke at several birding events and have had several Purple Martin programs at Bernheim Forest, so I am as ready as I will ever be.

Wish me luck. The Purple Martins need this publicity desperately. I hope we see less slum houses and more serious landlords... Not just from this, but period.

Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will do my best to speak for the Purple Martins we all love and enjoy.

And yes, I did ask... "Why Me?"..... smile.
I'm ready. Lets go !!!

Great deal, Larry, and I will be watching. My wife watches Martha, and I told her to get me when your program starts.
I bet that you will do an excellent job, especially since you have already given some presentations. Even if you do make a slight mistake, you surely will do better than most other people can do...good luck!

Thanks friends !!
I have been going a little crazy at home trying to make sure I have everything I need. It is so hard for me not to bring "this or that"... The producers have this down to an art. They are professionals and will make me shine ( as much as they can... if that's possible )
My wife says, "You're not nervous at all, are you?" I am nervous just a little, but years ago I DJed wedding receptions and lately I have been the game announcer at my daughters high school soccer team.
This will be easy for me to talk about. I am about as engrossed in the Purple Martin hobby as anyone, and what helps me to be most confident is everything I read from all of you on the forums is what I have learned and will have the opportunity to share. There is NOTHING like actual backyard experience. I'll give you an example. Martha's producer asked me about the PPCA glue used to attach tunnels and access ports. She asked a very good question about if the glue was safe for the birds. .... I got nervous. What if she asks me stuff like that , that I really don't know how to answer correctly. Then it came on like a light bulb over my head. "The glue has been proven in backyards all over the country. I use it because that is what all the landlords seem to be using without any side affects."
