Louise informed us that the Omaha, Ne roost had started on July 31, we were only 50 miles from Omaha and had missed last years display and we now thought we had also missed this years event. Well, we drove down to Omaha last Sunday on Aug 15th, and we were so totally blown away with what we witnessed. We know that this event was small compared to other roosts, but we still were truly impressed with the scale of it. We were there at 7:30 and stayed till 9:00, I have no clue how many birds participated, but I would surely guess it was several thousand.
I took some video with my little camera, the overhead shots didn't come out as I had hoped due to the huge amount of birds, all flying on different levels creating a focus problem, but some of the stuff was acceptable, and I managed to compile a couple minutes worth of interesting roost behavior.
It's one of those things that awe you about nature. I have added this video to my website, click on the link below and just scroll to the bottom of the welcome page to get a small glimpse of what we experienced.
