I sat out there for 30 minutes and saw a few martins fly over but no one stopped like they live here. And the babies aren't there anyore peeking their little heads out the holes.
The last martin adventure was early this afternoon. One baby was on the ground, trying his best to fly but he just couldn't get airborne. (Fully feathered and didn't appear injured, but he flapped his best and went forward but not up.) I heard a parent chirping encouragement but after a couple of hours I didn't see any parent trying to help out and I called a rehab vet who said to bring it in. I haven't heard any more from them about his condition. But around 2pm, martins were still here. And this evening, they're gone. I guess they were waiting on that last little guy.
So in all I had two pairs, and one single male. Four babies fledged, and one is at the rehabber. Will the baby find his way to South America without his family?
