Are you into nest cams or other online video streaming? I found a device that might be interesting and useful
I was cruizin' Ebay last weekend and purchase a "Pennacle Dazzle Video USB DVD Recorder". It's a refurbished unit and really inexpensive. I'm familiar with the Pennacle Dazzle equipment. It's always been high quality equipment. This one comes with a 90 warranty....being refurbished. I can live with that for the price.
The write-up says that any Audio/Video input can be recorde to DVD directly, without any equipment between. It will accept SVideo or Red/White/Yellow of composite as input. It has a 2.0 USB input for they computer, and uses your computer DVD writer.
Has anyone ever used this device?
It arrive in today's mail, and I installed the software..rather late this evening. Since my Camcorder is still in the shed, but pointing skyward and waiting for daylight hours, I really didn't have any devices handy to hook up an audio/video source. I guess I could have disconnected the cheap DVD players from one of the bedrooms.. but havn't yet.
My thoughts were to use it to record some of the video on DVD from the nest cams and the outside colony shot, then play it back during those long night hours when nothing is happening in the gourds. It would be easy to hook up a simple DVD player that just repeats the video over and over unless you shut it off.
A Pleasant Surprise
When I installed the software and went into the program, the program recognized the Dazzle device as an input source, but it also recognized my TV card! I can use either to record to DVD. Wasn't expecting that! I won't even have to hook the Dazzle device between the camera and the computer.
Just thought I'd share this one with anyone interested.

Joe, I'm just curious about how much audio/video (timewise) you can get on a DVD if you don't have the highest possible resolution as source material? If I'm only streaming 640x480 at 30 fps, will it hold like a week's worth of content to one disk? I imagine it won't be long util there are "BlueRay" HDTV nest-box cams available! I also came across a good link this morning that has good info on nest cams and similar options.

Fred, I doubt your're going to get much on the DVD. From what I've seen on the Dazzle recorder, it just records a certain number of minutes. It let me select the number of minutes I want to record. If I selected a 60 minute recording period, it switched me from the "Best" to "Better", but did let me record for the desired hour.
On another forum, someone told me to look into Windows Movie Maker. It's part of the XP SP2 program. So you probably already have it. It really impressed me when I looked it over this morning. Actually, I am pretty easy to impress. As I said to him, my knowledge and confidence in computer video stuff is rock bottom. I'm not over investing in BetaMax 30 years ago, and now they've taken blank VHS tapes off the shelves at Wally World.
Anyway, the guy says he uses this Dazzel DVD recorder but the WMM program rather than the program that comes with the recorder. when I looked it over, the Windows program is a MUCH stronger program.
I also ran across a site that might also interest you. I think deepburner.com will get you there. This one looks pretty good too.
