I have a purple martin house near a pond, near some electrical lines and have seen a half dozen or more circling above our home. None have landed to inspect the house. I also have redwinged blackbirds who live in the cattails near the pond and sit on the electrical wires. Will they scare the martins away?
Life is measured not by the breaths we take but by the moments that take our breaths away.

I also have a pond full of cattails. The redwings are there by the hundreds. They nest in the cattails and are no danger to Martins and will not chase them away. The only problem I have with them is when I feed Scrambled eggs to the Martins the Red Wings eat more than the Martins because of their size.

Good Luck,

I have redwings within 150 ft of my martin houses and have had no problems. They seem to spot hawks before my martins do and start screeching.
